KIU, Main Campus-KIU Vice Chancellor, Professor Mouhamad Mpezamihigo has advised the newly elected student leaders to try learning more than one skill in order to survive in today's competitive society. He said this during the Guild Union Handover Ceremony at the University Main Hall on Friday.

The glamourous ceremony attended by top University administrators, staff and students saw Yvonne Keinembabazi receive tools of Power from Godfrey Agaba to become the second Female guild president of KIU Main Campus in history.

The other female guild president in the history of Uganda's leading private University is Comfort Ndagire who served from 2016-2017.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by the KIU legal officer, Mr. Kwizera Rashid.

In his speech as the guest of honour, the Vice Chancellor commended both the incoming and outgoing teams for loving KIU.

Prof.Mpezamihigo reminded the leaders of the need to prioritize the core objective that brought them to KIU.

"While you embark on serving students and the University, please keep remembering the core objective, of studying," he said.

"In addition to your degree, you need to be multi-skilled. When you are not in a lecture, spend time doing something that will add on you, apply for an online course and learn something new," he added.

He also applauded leaders who maintained good academic performance despite having to attend to office duties as mandated by the students.

"Academic status is so important to you leaders, I want to thank those of you who are in leadership positions but also maintained their academic performance."

"New leaders need to be adequately informed, you should be the first to know, Service yourself but also try to remain transparent."

The Outgoing leadership was awarded medals in appreciation for the work well done.

In his remarks, Immediate past Guild Godfrey Agaba applauded the KIU administration for working closely with him. He appreciated the Vice Chancellor for the guidance rendered to him during his term of office.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Ms. Shakiro iluku Joyce said, "I'm humbled and short of words for the wonderful service you have rendered. For the incoming team, we shall grow together until the end of your term. May God lead you through this journey."

Mrs. Christine Ainebyona, the KIU Campus Administrator asked the new team to serve with discipline.

"May you serve with discipline. That's the only thing I request from you. And I want to thank the outgoing team for also being disciplined, let's work together," she said.

The director of quality assurance Dr. Irene Murithi said, "I am happy to be in front of you, and am ready to work with you. Don't misbehave for you will be destroying the name of the University."

In her ascension speech, president Keinembabazi promised to represent students' interests on top of everything else.

"I’m committed to representing the interests of the students regardless of gender and to be a bridge between students and the administration," she said.

"I want to start by engaging the administration on several issues and how to go about them. Secondly, I want to identify some of the unaccomplished work of the former Guild President and complete them where need be," she added.

Keinembabazi and her cabinet have 11 months to accomplish everything they promised their electorates.
