Course Description

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

Teacher trainees need knowledge and experiences first to enable them appreciate that comparative education as an educational science, study the history of comparative education, the methods of comparative education and the principles behind analyses of educational systems in different countries.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course will cover key concepts, methods, principles and practices of comparative education, including comparative Educational science as well as, the principles behind analyses of educational systems in different countries

COURSE AIM                                                    

To enable teacher trainees appreciate comparative Education as an educational science to apply the principles of analysis of educational systems in different countries and to make comparisons of education systems of developed and developing countries.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course unit, the students should be able to;

  • Define comparative education and explain its importance.
  • Identify a wide-range of factors which influence education system and select major factors which have influenced a particular system of education.
  • Meaningfully analyze education systems and policy in both developed and developing countries.
  • Analyze problems and policy issues in education with special reference to Uganda and suggest solutions for such problems.
  • Compare and contrast the Islamic education system with others.
