Course Description

The course is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills of the art of public speaking. The course involves the study, practice of the principles in strategic, confidence and credible public speaking; which includes a variety of oral presentation experiences, including special occasion, personal experience, panel discussion, informative and persuasive speaking. Focus on anxiety management, speech design, communication ethics, diverse audiences, and dynamic delivery. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This course is designed to enable students understand and apply  the basic principles of effective public speaking, understand the principles of audience analysis and message preparation,  and apply or adopt the  critical listening skills as they apply to public speaking. 

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 

To increase understanding and integration of the basic principles, practices and techniques of effective public speaking. 

To give students the opportunity to engage in public speaking and audience analysis outside of a classroom setting. 

To enhance student’s ability to listen more effectively and to think critically by peer reviewing other student speeches. 

To research, analyze, organize and select appropriate subject matter through critical thinking and audience analysis. 

To increase confidence and poise when speaking to audiences or groups. 

To expand student’s abilities with computer mediated communication in order to prepare them for future interviews and presentations online. 

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course unit students should be able to;

Demonstrate credible public speaking

Discuss the principles of public speaking 

Write a speech design 

Disuses the principles of communication ethics in relation to individual circumstances
