KIU, Main Campus - Having emerged second in the recent District and Municipality council elections, former Guild Union speaker, Richard Kandole is confident enough to go for an even greater position in Kyenjojo district come 2026. He draws his political roots from KIU which he says played a critical role in shaping his political career.

Kandole, a flag bearer for Alliance for National Transformation party lost the race for Kyenjojo district councilor representing Kihura sub-county narrowly despite being a new entrant in community and national politics.it is upon this that he rates his future highly bright.

Coming second in such a highly contested election is not an easy thing and it really gives me the confidence to try again come 2026.

In a telephone interview with this website, Kandole said it is incumbent on him and other KIU Alumni to make the university proud by doing great things. He argued that this is the only way they can pay back and contribute towards the construction of a reputable image for the university.

I believe running for leadership positions and doing such great things is the only way the Alumni can contribute towards the image of the university and that's how we can payback for all the good things we enjoyed at KIU.

He added that showing good examples can also help inspire continuing students to embrace different life-changing initiatives at the university.

Kandole also disclosed his intentions to run for Member of Parliament come 2026. He said that preparations will start in the next few months.

He served as Guild speaker, clerk to parliament and secretary KIU Toro students Association, KIUTISA in 2016-2017 before graduating with a degree of Arts in Education in November 2018.
