KIU, Western Campus – Two graduates of Kampala International University were among the nine dead people who perished when a building under construction in Lukuli-Nanganda village, Makindye Division in Kampala collapsed.

Tadeo Muwaya and Duncan Karuba Twine both graduated from KIU in 2018 with a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electoral Engineering respectively.

They lost their lives when they were buried by rubble after the building collapsed towards midnight on Saturday, according to various media reports,

The two were part of a group of around 20 construction workers, who were sleeping at the construction site at the time it collapsed.

The Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) Dr. Lawal Abdul Qayoom Tunji, prayed for their souls to rest in peace, and called for safe construction practices.

"It is really sad that these valuable individuals lost their lives in such a manner. I hope engineers can learn from this and ensure that constructions are carried out appropriately and using the best practice," Dr. Tunji said.

The KIU Community is deeply saddened by their loss. We send our sincere condolences to their families and may their souls rest in eternal peace!
