KIU, Western Campus – The Ministry of Education and Sports has released the new school calendar, which stipulates how resumption of school by students will be laid out.

Daily Monitor newspaper reports today September 23 that the Government yesterday, September 22 released a new school calendar which will spill over into next year after President Museveni bowed to pressure on Sunday to reopen education institutions.

The newspaper quoted Alex Kakooza (in the picture), the Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary as confirming yesterday that schools will start on October 15 for the second term and close in mid-December. Third term will begin in mid-January and end in April.

Meanwhile, Kakooza also reported that students in continuing classes will be automatically promoted basing on the effectiveness of learning from home.

“We are just trying to reopen. We cannot guarantee that children will not get sick. But education is a shared responsibility. All of us are expected to join hands and see how it works. Ensure that you wash hands regularly, don’t touch in the soft parts because the virus might be here for three years,” Kakooza was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
