KIU, Main Campus - One of the latest directives by President Yoweri Museveni has slashed Uganda’s COVID-19 cases to 145 after he decided that Uganda will now only count cases that have been registered within its borders.

Following this directive, 124 foreign truck drivers have been returned to their countries of origin, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health in a tweet.

“Following a Presidential Directive of deducting all foreign truck drivers from Uganda’s case count, the confirmed COVID-19 cases now stand at 145,” the Ministry tweeted.

The country’s cases had risen to 274 after 11 truck drivers and one Ugandan tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

As it is, the total number of truck drivers who have been handed over to their countries of origin is 124 since the presidential directive was issued.

The truck drivers tested yesterday were 1,264, and community samples tested were 233 bringing the total samples tested to 1,497.
