KIU, Main Campus - The US company Moderna says the COVID-19 vaccine they have just produced is capable of providing 95% effectiveness against Coronavirus.

Moderna used a highly innovative experimental approach to design the vaccine. Half of the 30,000 people involved in the clinical trials in the US were given two doses of the vaccine, four weeks apart whereas the rest had dummy injections. The examination was based on the first 95 to develop COVID-19 symptoms.

The company says it will pertain to the regulators in the US in the coming weeks and expects to have 20 billion doses available in the country. It also hopes to have close to one billion doses available for use around the world by 2021. They are planning to seek approval from other nations around the world

This news by Moderna comes just a week after another US company Pfizer and it's German partner Biontech gave the world hope with a 94.5 effective vaccine against the pandemic that has now claimed lives of close to 50 million people in the world.
