KIU, Western Campus – Family Planning Champion Dr. Simon Mambo Binezero represented the Department of Public Health of KIU Western Campus at this year’s International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), which took place at the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall in Pattaya City, Thailand from November 14-17.

The 2022 ICFP brought the family planning and reproductive health community together to strengthen collective movement to achieve universal access to family planning by 2030 as an essential element of Universal Health Coverage.

“I was engaged in several sessions as abstract presenter and speaker to share the progress and work I am doing regarding accelerating access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), especially family planning in sub-Saharan Africa,” Mambo, who is also a Teaching Assistant at KIU, told this website.

“It was a great experience to meet with global leaders and champions at the ICFP 2022. My best experience was being on the panel of the WHO scientific sub-committee, writing as a junior researcher and sharing with my audience my experience in the work am doing. This was a great platform for me to learn and acquire new knowledge, especially in Universal Health Coverage,” he added.

This is the second time Mambo is attending ICFP, the first being in 2018 in Kigali, Rwanda. He has done great work in his community, acting as the Executive Director of the Youth Alliance for Reproductive Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mambo says that the Department of Public Health at KIU Western Campus has empowered him and he looks forward to be the champion in SRHR and contribute to global policy geared towards improving the wellbeing of young people.
