KIU, Western Campus – The Kampala International University Teaching Hospital has called on people to stay calm amidst the threat of a Coronavirus outbreak.

To address the rumors and speculation from social media that have caused panic among the people, Dr Sam Kyalema, the Head of the Coronavirus Emergency Centre has called on people to stay calm.

He advised that panic would put everyone at risk of negatively affecting the measures that have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus.

“People should avoid spreading harmful rumours because if we cause panic, people will get scared and end up violating safety measures," he said. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the people are given the right information because if we lower our guard, we might end up bringing harm to ourselves."

He also revealed that there is so far no confirmed case at the Teaching Hospital and they were implementing the stringent measures put in place to keep the public safe.

Everyone entering the hospital and University is required to wash their hands at both entrances and people have been encouraged to buy hand sanitizers and other personal protection equipment like gloves and facial masks.
