KIU, Western Campus – Mbah Kennedy Mbah is hopeful his Degree in Medicine from KIU will help transform his community in his native Cameroon.

Mbah, who hails from the English-speaking part of the West African country currently embroiled in a bitter civil conflict, believes the expertise he has garnered during the tenure of his course will come in handy when he starts practicing medicine back home.

“I am very proud that come Saturday 24, I will be a fully-fledged medical doctor. I hope to use my medical skills to improve the healthcare system in my country,” says Mbah.

“It has been a very long and tough academic journey but I am confident that it was all for the better. I believe my country needs more medical practitioners like me,” he adds.

Mbah admits that he has faced a number of challenges, most notably homesickness, since he has been away from his beloved motherland and relatives for over six years, but he is quick to add that this sacrifice was worthwhile.

Due to the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, there have been delays in the academic schedule but it also gave Mbah the opportunity to do internship at a certain health institution in Ishaka town.

As he prepares to leave Uganda after graduation, Mbah maintains that he will always have fond memories of KIU, especially his friends, with whom he shared many fond memories.
