KIU, Western Campus – Jawadu Niwamanya will graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the KIU 29th Graduation Ceremony on July 13th, 2024.

The former vice president for External Affairs at the Federation of Uganda Medical Students Associations (FUMSA) says he wants to engage in research that contributes to the advancement of medical science.

“I intend to use the knowledge and skills I have acquired at KIU to become a better citizen, serving humanity to the best of my abilities and to engage in research that contributes to the advancement of medical science,” Niwamanys says.

“For example, I have started up a research consultancy firm called Action Focused Research for Rural Africa which intends to offer research consultancy services as well as mentor other young researchers with the major aim of transforming research ideas into tangible solutions in the fields of health and social sciences in Africa,” he adds.

He says he joined KIU in 2017 because it had high-quality education, state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse learning environment.

He adds that his experience at KIU exceeded his expectations because it provided him with a multicultural, enriching environment that allowed him to develop academic knowledge and essential skills like interpersonal communication, leadership and problem-solving.

Niwamanya leaves the university with memories that he says will forever be etched in his memory and will be valuable to him as he explores the possibilities life will offer him.

“Some of the most memorable experiences I take away from KIU include serving as a class representative and later as the Vice President for External Affairs at FUMSA,” he shares.

“These leadership roles allowed me to hone my organizational and networking abilities, which will be invaluable as I move forward in my career,” he adds.

Niwamanya urges anyone who wants a quality university education to join KIU because of its commitment to providing a well-rounded, patient-centred curriculum coupled with its state-of-the-art facilities and experienced lecturers.

He plans to pursue a Master of Medicine in Pathology and later a Ph.D. in Forensic Pathology so that he can further enhance his knowledge and skills in the field of medicine.

He congratulates all his fellow graduands and encourages them to maintain the connections and networks they have built during their time at KIU because the world they are entering can be challenging to navigate alone.

Niwamanya also encourages them to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained at KIU to make a positive impact on the world around them.
