KIU Main Campus - A few weeks ago, Sovereign Hasashya was elected Butaleja District Youth Council Secretary before she was indicted to the National Youth Council as a member. She has since promised to use the privilege to fight and reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancies in the district and the Eastern region at large.

The former Minister of Gender in the 2018/19 Guild Union government has been on different radio and television stations inspiring and sensitising the youth on different aspects of life. Her major attention is on fighting teenage pregnancies which she says has left many young girls in Eastern Uganda out of school.

"I intend to lead the campaign against teenage Pregnancies in Butaleja district and the whole Easter region if resources allow," Sovereign says.

She believes that there is no time left for young people to cause an impact in society since they are the majority in Africa. She has also vowed to serve humanity with her passion of leadership.

"Young people have the power to create a difference because we are the majority not only in Uganda but Africa as a whole, that's why I am looking forward to creating an impact through leadership," she admits.

Teenage Pregnancies is one of the leading causes of school dropouts in Eastern Uganda which also adds to poverty and low standards of living.

Sovereign Hasashya graduated from KIU main campus with a first class degree in Social Work and Social Administration in November 2019. She served as President Social Work Students' Association, Member of Parliament representing College of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Minister of Gender in the Guild Union all in the 2018/19 calendar year.
