KIU, Western Campus – KIU fourth-year Engineering student Herbert Namilinga says he wants to be the “asset of the nation” as far as engineering is concerned.

The soft-spoken Telecommunication Engineering student says he aims at doing this through improving the technology of the world.

“I want to be the asset of the nation by improving and changing the technology of the world,” Namilinga says.

He says the skills he has so far attained in his four years at KIU are testament to the fact that he can achieve his dream, which is why he joined the university in the first place.

“I joined KIU in 2016 because in my opinion and those of many others, it was offering the best Engineering courses though I was partly attracted by the university’s bursary scheme,” Namilinga reveals.

He says he will forever cherish the time he has spent at KIU.

“I will never forget my time at KIU because I have met many people who have changed my life not only socially and academically but financially as well,” he says.

Namilinga has also had the opportunity to hold various leadership positions such as president of Bamasaba Kampala International University Students Association (BAKIUSA) in 2017/2018 and Telecom Representative for School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS).in the same period.

He says his two elder brothers who are responsible for paying his tuition and upkeep are his main inspiration and he refers to them as “my rock”.

He advises his fellow students never to give up in life when faced with challenges, offering himself as an example.

“I had many reasons to give up on my education but I never wavered because I kept on believing that I will achieve my dream of being a Telecommunication Engineer,” Namilinga concludes.
