KIU General News: President Museveni Opens 50 Mega Watt Mobile Power Station in Mbale District

KIU, Main Campus - On Wednesday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned a 50megawatt mobile power station that will serve Sino-Mbale Industrial Park in Mbale district.

Museveni, who has been in full scientific campaign mode, detoured to open the mobile power station provided to the industrial park.

He was accompanied by the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Mary Goreti Kitutu, the State Minister for Trade, Hon. Michael Werikhe and the NRM flag bearer for Mbale City Woman MP, Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende and many others.

According to Harriet Naluggya, the Senior Safety and Standards Engineer at Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), the mobile station is set to address the power shortages that have been affecting the industrial park in Mbale.

Naluggya remarked that the mobile power station will be in use at the Mbale industrial park until a permanent one, whose construction is ongoing has been completed.

The Sino-Mbale industrial park stands on 619 acres and will be home to a chain of over 80 factories manufacturing bulbs, detergents, textiles, and electric cables among others.

Besides, the industrial park is set to employ over 15000 people directly.
