KIU, Main Campus - Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration Dr Janice Desire Busingye and Ambrose Kibuuka, member of the KIU Board of Trustees have advised the 2021 Guild Union leadership to use leadership as a ladder to excellence.

They made the remarks during the induction of the union on May 19th as part of the university's custom to empower students leaders in pursuit of their responsibilities.

Kibuuka told the student leaders that their positions present a rare opportunity that other students don't have. He urged them to use the positions as a platform to learn as many ordinary things that would change their lives.

''You have been given a special opportunity to learn things that ordinary students can't. Be organized, this is a ladder, you need to be the best and we need you to become the best. Our pride is to see you excel and that's what we work for,'' Kibuuka emphasized.

Dr Busingye concurred with Kibuuka's advice by encouraging the students' leaders to be smart and presentable as well as understanding where they want the ladder to take them.

''Have an idea of where you want the ladder to take you. Be smart and presentable. Be neat. I am saying this from a mother's heart,'' Dr Busingye emphasized.

She also called upon the leaders not to get too excited and forget their primary cause in the University.

''Always remember that you were not admitted as a guild leader but a student who needs good grades at the end of the day, Education is the only equalizer. Work at your documents,'' she advised.

The induction of Guild Union officials is a customary activity organized by the University administration through the office of the Dean of students in order to empower incoming students' leaders with a variety of skills to execute their responsibilities during a given term of office.

The event was attended by different administrators, external trainers, and the guild union leadership for the calendar year 2020/2021.
