KIU, Main Campus - The Directorate of High Degrees and Research invites the entire KIU Community and the General Public to a Viva Voce presentation by Shaft Nasser Mukwaya, a PHD Student from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The presentation is slated to take place next week on Tuesday, 19th October 2021 at 10am via zoom meeting.

Mukwaya's study sought to assess the influence of decentralization and youth participation in local government in Uganda by establishing platforms and factors affecting the notions therein.

His study findings revealed that the youth have utilised structures of the local government councils and women councils as a platform of participation, and also showed that local government and political party leagues were the least popular platforms for participation.

He sights that youth in Uganda are faced with a multipacity of challenges and obstacles (finance, legal, policy, discrimination, economic, and access to information) which affects their participation in decision making.

Meanwhile Mukwaya's study recommends that youth participation in governance process should be enhanced through increased awareness creation and capacity building targeting youth leader duty bearers.
