KIU Holds Orientation for August Intake Postgraduate Students

KIU, Western Campus – The Faculty of Education at KIU Western Campus held an academic writing and grant workshop on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, at the Postgraduate Boardroom.
The workshop was organized to teach faculty staff members about academic writing, grants and publications and was organized by the publications office at Western Campus.
Among the presenters during the workshop were Dr. Paul-Chima Ugwu Okechukwu, the Deputy Director of Research, Dr. Shanthi Sabbarayan, the Deputy Director for Grants, Dr. Valentine Eze, a publication officer, Dr. Muhammad Tukur, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Dr. Lucy Aja, the Associate Dean for Research at the Faculty of Education.
Dr. Okechukwu told the participants that the Faculty of Education is the mother faculty because it produces educators and also told them how to improve publication in education research.
“Education is the mother faculty because it provides educators. Whether you are going to become an engineer or doctor you must pass through educators,” he said.
“You can improve publication in the faculty through promotion of inter-disciplinary collaboration, utilization of KIU publication support services and enhancing research funding opportunities,” he added.
He also told them the university is trying to improve publication by organizing professional development workshops, putting in place recognition and incentives and creating publication research groups.
Dr. Shanthi assured them that the grants office at KIU Western Campus is open to them in case they need to apply for grants for their research and it would always guide them on how to apply for these grants.
Dr. Tukur told the participants that the Faculty through the Associate Dean for Research would help them to realize the publication of their research in different journals through collaboration with the Office of Publication and Extension.
The Office of Publication and Extension is holding workshops for the different faculties and schools to teach academic staff how to improve publication.
