KIU30thGrad: Former KIU Guild President Moses Ebye Wants to see Change in Society upon Graduation

KIU, MAIN CAMPUS: Guild President emeritus Moses Ebye will also complete his first degree in Legal studies at KIU's 30th graduation ceremony on November 23rd,2024. He is poised to influence his colleagues to work towards the transformation of society.

Ebye One of the most outstanding student leaders joined KIU in August 2020, to pursue his lifelong dream course, a Bachelor of Laws and he was inspired by KIU's unmatched reputation for academic excellence, diversity, and commitment to community service.

“First of all, KIU is the leading private University in the region. It is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education and widely recognised by international bodies, the wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the modern infrastructure, libraries and research centers which create an ideal learning environment, an ideal location and scholarships. All these combined, assured me of its quality education,” Ebye reveals.

During his time at KIU, Ebye held various leadership positions as he served as class coordinator (2020-2024), university chief fresher, chief fresher Kigezi Students Association, NRM chief fresher and Rukiga district representative, Head of coordinators school of law, legal advisor kigezi students association, coordinator Exploits fellowship, Member of Parliament (Mp)school of law, NRM flag bearer and later assumed Guild presidency position (2022-2023).

During his leadership, Ebye registered a number of achievements in various fields such as governance, academic and career development, student welfare and support, community engagement and outreach, financial management among others.

He was awarded the best student leader (2022-2023), recognized as one of the 2023 top 10 student leaders in Uganda and was also awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Student Life.

For Ebye, studying at KIU was a pivotal experience, one that shaped his academic, personal, and professional growth.

“From 2020 to 2024, I had the privilege of being part of a vibrant community that fostered intellectual curiosity, cultural diversity, and social responsibility”, he adds.

Ebye says KIU's rigorous academic programs challenged him to think critically, analyze complex issues, and develop problem-solving skills. He is grateful for the experienced faculty, modern facilities, and resources that enabled him excel academically.

“Beyond academics, KIU provided a platform for personal development through leadership roles in student organizations participation in cultural events and festivals community service projects and volunteer work, which enriched me with self-confidence, resilience and empathy,” he reflects.

Message to Fellow Graduands

“This graduation marks a significant milestone in our lives, the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. As we stand together, proud and accomplished”, Ebye remarks

He urges his fellow graduands to celebrate this achievement, always stay humble, open-minded, build connections, pursue their career, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, stay true to values, support one another, give back to the community and always remember their roots.

“As we embark on this new chapter, remember that our education is not merely a degree, but a tool to empower ourselves, communities and the world at large”.

Ebye concludes that his time at KIU was transformative. It equipped him with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to succeed in his chosen field of work. He looks forward to applying the lessons learned to make a positive impact in the community.
