KIU, Main Campus- A total of 3,521 students from different academic disciplines have today Saturday 24th April 2021 graduated with different degrees, diplomas and certificates at KIU’S 23rd Graduation ceremony that was held online for the second consecutive time due to limitations caused by COVID 19.

The university has recorded a 4% increment in science-based awards which is equivalent to 47% of the graduands compared to the 22nd graduation that also happened online in August 2020 according to the vice-chancellor, Dr Mouhamad Mpezamihigo. Out of the total number of graduands,2135(61%) are boys while girls are 1386 which represents 39%. 1849 awards have gone to arts, humanities, business, education and law. 171 are postgraduates, including three PhDs. The western Campus had the biggest number of graduands,54% which according to the vice-chancellor explains the jump in the percentage of the science graduands.

Only 22 students among bachelor’s degree holders stood out with first-class honours degrees. Each one of them received a certificate of merit for their outstanding performance. While congratulating them, the vice-chancellor urged all graduands to adequately prepare and become logical, flexible and adaptable as they look for jobs.

‘’Please remember that you are graduating during very unpredictable times, in which there are global crises of all sorts. This calls upon each one of you to adequately prepare to be: reasonable, flexible, adaptable, logical and understanding. As you look around for a job,’’ Muohamad Mpezamihigo said.

The graduands who reside near the university premises jubilated and took photos with their friends while majority celebrated from their respective homes where they followed the ceremony on Urban and Bukedde Television channels as well as the KIU social media platforms.

‘’At last, I have got the degree, now it’s time for the world to see the best in me,’’ said Omuya Noah who graduated with a bachelors degree of Mass Communication.

‘’ I want to thank God and my parents for supporting me in all ways. It has not been easy to get this degree, it took sacrifice, hard work, commitment and determination for me to get a first-class degree,’’ Norman Nabimanya admitted after confirming a first-class degree in public administration.

Were Walter another graduand attributed his bachelor's degree in medical lab science to God and the University for providing a conducive learning environment.

In his address, Professor Fred Wabwire Mangen, the chairperson of, KIU University council said that the increase in the number of graduands is a clear testimony of the University’s steady progress and one reason why it is ranked the best private university in East Africa. He added that KIU has demonstrated enough resilience to organize two graduation ceremonies amidst uncertainties caused by COVID-19 which proves that it can stand the test of time and still deliver desirous services to the community.

"The resilience that the university has demonstrated has shown that it can stand the test of time and still deliver desirous services to the community and for this, I commend you,’’ Said Pro. Fred Wabwire Mangen.

He urged the graduands to go and compete in the global environment with an aim of changing the world for the better.
