KIU Holds Orientation for August Intake Postgraduate Students
September 16, 2024, 4:24 am
KIU, Main Campus c?? While addressing the nation on the state
of COVID-19 in Uganda on 28th March 2020, President Yoweri Museveni
urged Ugandans to keep calm and persevere through these times, also mentioning
the importance of the continued movement of cargo into and out of the country.
The President particularly addressed this issue, as there
had been an uproar by the public to close the borders in light of the recent
cases being those of truck drivers transporting cargo into the country.
c?I want to appeal to the Ugandans to swallow their anger and
employ wisdom,c⬝ said the President. c?Stopping cargo is suicidal and unnecessary
because if we stop now, how will our coffee, tea, cotton, simsim, milk, cement
from factories, and food move.c⬝
He said the movement of cargo is important because the
purpose of farmers who produce food, and the medical personnel who receive
necessary gear to aid in the fight against Coronavirus, is defeated if the
exportation and importation of cargo are prohibited.
The President also said that the truck drivers and lorries
will only be eliminated when the other options like the ships, lanes, and
trains are made available to transport cargo and shipments.
