KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University (KIU) is empowering students with globally recognized digital skills through the International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL), formerly known as the International Computer Driving License.

Peter Maina, Regional Manager – ICDL Africa, emphasized the importance of embracing technology responsibly: “Technology is like a knife, you can use it for good and for bad as a weapon. Technology is here to stay, so you need to understand it because it is here to make our work easier.” He cautioned learners against misuse, while encouraging them to take advantage of ICDL opportunities at KIU.

He further noted that ICDL offers over 26 modules, ranging from beginner to professional levels, ensuring learners can progress step?by?step to advanced digital competence.
Dan Muhenda, Market Development Executive – ICDL, also urged students to seize the moment: “If there is an opportunity to upskill yourself, now is the time. The habit of just consuming should be discarded because it is high time we also contributed. You should not expect to be taught at the workplace if you have the opportunity to learn here.”

Adding to this, Dr. Chukwuemeka Odi Agwu, Deputy Dean School of Mathematics and Computing, reminded students: “Good luck is when opportunity meets someone that is prepared. ICDL is giving you that, so make use of it.”

Fred Bwambale, ICDL Trainer of Trainers, highlighted the workplace relevance of the program: “The certification you get after ICDL training prepares you for the workplace with an internationally recognized certificate. It is good that ICDL has also offered sponsorship to KIU newly sworn?in guild leaders.”

With ICDL, KIU is equipping students not just with digital knowledge, but with practical, internationally recognized competence, ensuring graduates are prepared to thrive in the modern workplace and contribute meaningfully to society.
