PhD in Public Health (By Research)

Objectives the Programme

A doctoral degree shall be awarded to individuals who have demonstrated the ability to apply a substantial body of knowledge to research, investigate and develop new knowledge, in their fields of study/investigation, scholarship or professional practice. KIU shall confer a PhD degree to students who can:

  1. Show a systematic comprehension, independent and in-depth understanding of a discipline with a mastery of skills and research processes related to the field of study.
  2. Contribute to the original research that broadens the boundary of knowledge through an in-depth thesis and defence.
  3. Use intellectual independence to think critically, evaluate existing knowledge and ideas, undertake systematic investigations and reflect on theory and practice to generate original knowledge. 
  4. Communicate with peers, scholarly communities and society at large concerning the field of expertise.
  5. Demonstrate ability to use technologies and make appropriate innovations.
  6. Take leadership in the area of expertise in evaluating and making decisions in situations with limited information while considering social responsibilities and related ethics.
  7. Engage in current academic and professional debates and will significantly contribute to the well-being of the community by addressing contemporary societal challenges.
