2020 UGANDAN UNIVERSITY RANKING REVEALS KIU AS BEST PRIVATE UNIVERSITY IN UGANDA

Kampala, Uganda – Kampala International University (KIU) has once again been ranked the best private university in Uganda, by the 2020 UniRank Ugandan University Ranking. KIU has steadily moved up from 5th position in July 2019, to 4th position in February 2020, and now to 2nd position as of November 2020, all whilst maintaining rank of best private university in Uganda.

Coming in second after Makerere University, KIU – which has also been ranked 46th among the top 200 universities in Africa – has met the selection criteria by UniRank, which includes; being chartered, licensed or accredited by the National Council for Higher Education of Uganda; offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees); and delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format.

This apparent victory follows the recent appointment of Prof. Mahmood Mamdani as the KIU Chancellor in July 2020, whose tenure follows a successful end of that of Prof J.  M.  P.  Sebuwufu who also served diligently and with total commitment, according to a statement from the university.

Furthermore, KIU held an online graduation ceremony during the COVID-19 lockdown in August 2020, the first of its kind in the 20-year history of the University, to virtually graduate 2,253 graduands, out of which 38% (871) were females, 62% (1,382) were males.

According to the Vice Chancellor of KIU, Dr Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, “this latest release is yet another milestone and a good reason to celebrate. KIU has undoubtedly become the industry leader and a center of knowledge creation as was recently remarked by Prof A.B.K Kasozi, the former and pioneer Executive Director of the National Council for Higher Education.”

Dr Mpezamihigo added, “KIU staff, students, internal and external stakeholders are much appreciated because it is their commitments and focus that has earned the University this fame. Let’s all work hard to maintain the lead and find ourselves in the very near future as the No 1 University among both the public and private Universities in Uganda.”

He further attributed this success not only about KIU’s market dynamism, but also the reality that KIU has managed to beat all odds despite the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, and is successfully transforming into a world class University premiering in all aspects of quality delivery of University Education.

The aim of the ranking is to provide a non-academic League Table of the top Ugandan Universities based on valid, unbiased and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web intelligence sources rather than data submitted by the Universities themselves.
