KIU, Main Campus - Under the inspiring theme “Weaving Cultures”, Kampala International University (KIU) transformed its Main Campus into a dazzling tapestry of heritage and identity during the 2026 Annual Cultural Gala. Held on Saturday, March 28th, the event was a spectacular showcase of cultural diversity, bringing together over 21 cultures in a pompous and colorful display of tradition, music, and dance.

Organized by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, the gala was more than just entertainment. It was a living classroom of cultural exchange, inclusion, and cross‑cultural understanding. Every performance, every costume, and every flavor told a story of belonging, unity, and pride.

At the height of the celebrations, competitions in both national and international categories electrified the audience.

In the national segment, the Tooro Students’ Association emerged victorious, followed closely by Baganda Nkobazambogo in second place and Abasoga Nseete Students’ Association in third. In the international category, the Banyarwanda Students’ Association claimed first place, while the KIU South Sudanese Association secured second.

The best participants received awards, and the top three winners proudly lifted trophies.

These were presented by Dr. Jacob Ashibi, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs. His presence underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing cultural awareness alongside academic excellence.

What made the celebration even more remarkable was the active participation of university staff, who joined students in the festivities. Their presence and enthusiasm highlighted KIU’s spirit of togetherness, showing that cultural appreciation is not confined to students alone but embraced across the entire institution. Staff and students danced, sang, and celebrated side by side, weaving cultures into one vibrant community.

For years, KIU has hosted cultural galas as a cornerstone of its mission to promote diversity and inclusion. These events break down stereotypes, foster community, and remind us that education is not only about books but also about embracing the richness of human identity.

As the evening unfolded, the campus came alive with the beat of drums, the swirl of costumes, and the echoes of ancestral wisdom carried through folk songs. The air was thick with rhythm, melody, and the spirit of togetherness. The 2026 Cultural Gala was not just a celebration, it was a reaffirmation of KIU’s vision: Exploring the Heights by weaving cultures into one vibrant family.
