KIU, Main Campus —The School of Mathematics and Computing (SOMAC) extended its dominance at Kampala International University (KIU) after winning the overall title at the 2025 Interfaculty Games on Saturday, November 15th, 2025.
SOMAC earned 112 points and claimed four individual trophies, securing the championship for the second straight year.
The School of Law finished second after falling 2–1 to SOMAC in the football final, while the College of Economics and Management placed third, boosted by a memorable victory over SOMAC in the basketball final.

SOMAC received the championship trophy and a cash prize of UShs.700,000/=. The first and second runners-up were awarded UShs.500,000/= and UShs.200,000/=, respectively.
“I am very excited to lead my team to victory once again. It is not easy to win these games back-to-back,” team captain Henry Kenneth Ntambula said after lifting the trophy.
Ntambula added, “SOMAC is blessed with highly talented, united and passionate students,” which he said sets the school apart and fuels its continued success.
The Interfaculty Games, held annually, are organized by the Guild Union in conjunction with the university’s sports department.

KIU Guild Union President Major Aineplani praised the university administration, student body and sports department for their “wholehearted support.”
“There is no doubt that this was a wonderful tournament. I am sure all of us enjoyed it from start to end,” he said.
“This success could not have come without the support of our mighty administration, the sports department and the students of KIU at large.”
Guild Union Sports Minister Daniel Ssemanda described the event as the reward for “sleepless nights,” calling the tournament a success.

“The tournament taught me that organization, teamwork and unity always win. Discipline can never be defeated,” he said.
This year’s event lasted three days and marked only the second edition since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the university activity calendar.
New Stars Emerge
Beyond the excitement and display of teamwork and college pride, the Interfaculty Games produced a new wave of standout athletes across several disciplines, with many first-year students making a name for themselves.
“We took note of several good players in almost every sport, and we have summoned them to join our teams preparing for the 2025 Inter-University Games later this year,” sports tutor Annet Kabasindi said.

The emergence of new talent is expected to boost KIU’s performance at the 2025 Inter-University Games, scheduled for December at Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
“We hope to put up a good show at UCU if these players are well incorporated into the teams. The administration, led by our chairman Board of Trustees, Dr. Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, is ready to give its usual support,” Campus Administrator Christine Ainebyona said during the closing ceremony.
