KIU, Main Campus – Kampala International University (KIU), Main Campus has officially welcomed its April 2026 intake of freshmen, with orientation activities in full swing. The official Open Day ceremony was held on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, ushering in a week of college‑ and department‑level sessions designed to help new students settle in, complete registration, and familiarize themselves with the university system.
At the Open Day, students were formally sworn in as members of the KIU community. Prof. Muhammed Ngoma, Vice Chancellor, congratulated them on joining “the leading private university in Uganda and East Africa.” He urged the freshmen to remain focused on their primary purpose: learning.

“Be self‑disciplined and responsible. Do the right thing at the right time, in the right place, and with the right people. Freedom is yours, but use it wisely—because misused freedom carries consequences,” he emphasized.
Dr. Jacob Eneji Ashibi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, reinforced the importance of discipline and academic integrity.

“Poor preparation leads to poor planning. Read diligently to avoid retakes, repeated semesters, and the temptation of exam malpractice. Lectures commence on Monday, 11th May 2026 for day students and Saturday, 16th May 2026 for weekend students. Remember, a minimum of 75% attendance is required to qualify for tests and exams,” he cautioned.

Christine Ainebyoona, Deputy University Secretary and Campus Administrator, highlighted the importance of upholding KIU’s positive image. She encouraged students to make the most of the university’s resources: “Use the readily accessible Wi‑Fi for research and academic growth. Let your digital footprint reflect responsibility and excellence.”
Shakiro Iluku, Dean of Students’ Affairs, reminded students to prioritize safety: “Security begins with you. Be vigilant, take care of yourselves, and reach out to administrators whenever you need support. We are here to make your stay easier and safer.”

SP. Robert Agaba, Community Liaison Officer from Kabalagala Police Station, further sensitized students on security awareness, pointing out blind spots in the area and urging vigilance. “Stay alert, know your surroundings, and work with us to ensure your safety both on and off campus,” he advised.

Organised by the Directorate of Students Affairs led by Shakiro Iluku, Dean of Students’ Affairs, the orientation week serves as a pivotal moment for KIU’s leadership to usher freshmen into the KIU academic and social culture, ranging from how to prepare for lectures, tests and exams to discipline, respectable dress code, responsibility, and community values, while offering encouragement and a warm introduction.
