KIU, Western Campus – David Begumya is a true testament to the adage “the best things come to those who wait”.

Having dedicated the larger part of his higher education life and teaching career to KIU, Begumya will be one of the privileged few who will graduate with Ph.Ds at the university’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, April 24.

Begumya, 46, joined KIU Western Campus as an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Management in 2005, making him one of the longest-serving staff members at Uganda’s best private university.

And his sixteen years of service will not be in vain, as the father of three graduates with a Ph.D. in Management Sciences, specializing in Public Management.

Begumya, whose one of his aspirations and life rules is to be an exemplary manager and administrator, doubles as the Director and Apostle of Eagles Nest Church Evangelical Ministries in Bushenyi and Kisubi, as well as the Managing Director of Eagle’s Capital services, Uganda.

He has also served as an administrator in the Planning Department of Mbarara University of Science and Technology from 2002 to 2003 and has also been a banker, acting as the Head of Corporate Accounts in the Sales Department of Barclays Bank, Ishaka Branch from 2008 to 2009.

His education journey has been quite a nomadic one. He started out at Makerere Kindergarten for nursery school before joining Makerere Primary School, leaving in 1982 after completing Primary Two.

His family left the country for Zambia, compelling him to enroll at Jacaranda Primary school, Lusaka in 1983 and then also left Zambia for Kenya, where he studied at Milimani Primary School from 1985 for his Primary Six until completion of Primary Eight in 1988, the highest primary class in Kenya.

He came back to Uganda for his secondary school education, spending all the six years of High School at Ntare School from 1989 to 1994.

He then did a Certificate in Personal Finance and Investment at Bugema University before joining Makerere University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences in 1999, majoring in Economics and Political Science.

He followed this up with a Post-Graduate Degree in Planning and Development at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

Shortly after KIU and Begumya’s paths met, he decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management, completing the course in 2009.

With an unquestionable desire for always improving on his academic profile, it is no doubt that Begumya decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Management Sciences, which he completed last year.

There is no doubt that this loyal servant of KIU, who has already published eight articles in renowned journals like the International Journal of Management and Commerce Innovations, the International Journal of Social Science and Humanities Research and the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Research and Innovations, will bring vast academic wealth to the University.
