Col Edith Nakalema to Grace the 2024 KIU Law Dinner

KIU, Main Campus- The State House Investors Protection Unit Commander, Colonel Edith Nakalema will be the Guest of honour at the 2024 KIU Law Dinner at Protea Hotel on Friday evening, the KIU Law Society has Confirmed.

The glamourous event that starts at 5 pm (EAT) will run under the theme "A Respectable, Reputable, and Result-Oriented Lawyer."

The Outgoing President of the KIU Law Society, Jonathan Areeba who is also one of the lead organisers of the dinner explained why they chose Col.Nakalema as chief guest.

"She has vast experience as she has been working for a while with state house in the fight against corruption."

"Considering the sensitive nature of the legal profession, her perspective towards legal practice and ethics is one the students should passive," he said.

Former Uganda Law Society President, Pheonah Wall is also among the dignitaries who have confirmed their attendance at the 2024 KIU Law Dinner.

The Law Society also confirmed Isaac Akatukunda, the Honorary Secretary of the Uganda Law Society, Counsel Paterson of Signum, Tony Tumukunde, Claire Amanya Rukundo as well Kyagaba Isaac Newton of Kyagaba and Otatina Advocates as the other guests set to grace the event.

The dinner will feature a handover ceremony which will see the outgoing Law Society President, Jonathan Areeba formerly hand over power to the new leadership led by Pius Kiyemba.

It will also include a panel discussion on the theme by some of the leading legal minds in Uganda, according to Jonathan Areeba. The panel will be moderated by Brian Kambaho while KIU attorney, Joseph Kyazze will also join the panel.

"I really encourage students to embrace this opportunity because there is a lot to learn from these great people, "Jonathan Areeba noted.

"Their work ethic, experience and reputation in legal practice is outstanding and as such the law students will be blessed to tap into this abundance of knowledge," he added.

Besides the abundance of knowledge, potential connections and glamour, Law students as well as guests will be treated to the best dinner there has been, reportedly and according to Areeba, a live band will soothe the evening and a party all night.
