COVID-19 Updates: Uganda Eases More Lockdown Restrictions

KIU, Main Campus - On 9th November 2020, the government announced further easing of the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions on mass gatherings, political rallies, cinemas, casinos.

According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the number of people allowed on mass gatherings including churches, weddings, political rallies, and meetings has been increased to 200. 

Furthermore, effective 14th November 2020, casinos and gaming outlets shall resume operations after fulfilling conditions included in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The government, in March this year, announced a total national lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. It has since been easing the restrictions, a few at a time with these being the latest. 

Concerning the latest easings, Dr. Aceng clarified that the hours of operations for gyms, cinemas, and massage parlors would be restricted from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm.

As of 9th November, Uganda had registered 14,574 cases, with 7771 recoveries and 133 deaths.
