KIU, Western Campus – Campaigns for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), departmental and faculty elections have kicked off as various candidates vie for different positions. The polls will be held on Friday 28th February.

Samuel Niyonzima, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, SEAS approved the polls to begin. The desired positions include President, Vice-President, Field Coordinator, Research & Innovation Coordinator, Woman MP and then MPs for Civil, Telecom, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Departments.

In a consultative meeting with the candidates on Tuesday, Niyonzima warned them against flouting electoral laws as that would lead to automatic disqualification.

Yusuf Ataho, a second-year student (pictured in the article) who is standing unopposed for the post of Vice-President, added: “We are happy with the guidelines and can't wait for the D-Day."

Currently, Wani Musamalwa, a third-year student, will be declared the new president of the school if he is unopposed by election day.
