Freshmen Inducted into KIU Culture During Orientation Ceremony

KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University (KIU), Main Campus, officially welcomed its August–September 2025 intake of freshmen during a vibrant orientation ceremony held on Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025 at the IBM Library. The event served as a pivotal moment for the university’s leadership to offer guidance, encouragement, and a warm introduction to KIU’s academic and social culture.

Prof. Muhammed Ngoma, Vice Chancellor, urged the new students to remain focused on their academic journey, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline and intentional learning.

“We believe you are mature individuals, so you must be self-driven. Engage in extracurricular activities, build meaningful friendships, and participate positively in campus life while steering clear of negative influences such as drugs,” he advised.

Dr. Jacob Eneji Ashibi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, highlighted the importance of discipline and adherence to university policies, particularly regarding exam integrity and financial responsibility.

“Avoid mismanagement of your financial resources, especially tuition. Do not divert tuition funds for other purchases or gambling, as this could lead to scams and loss of essential academic support,” he cautioned.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Mundu Mustafa, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, encouraged students to monitor their finances closely and strive f or academic excellence to avoid unnecessary costs from retakes.

Dr. Vidya Sankarapandian, Acting Director of Academic Affairs, reminded students to register and activate their university accounts to access vital resources such as the academic calendar, announcements, exam timetables, and results.

Asiati Mbabazi, University Secretary, congratulated the freshmen for choosing KIU—recognized as the leading private university in Uganda and East Africa. She urged students to stay safe, avoid peer pressure, and seek help when needed. “Do not waste time. Read, excel, and reach out for support whenever you need information or assistance,” she advised.

Christine Ainebyoona, Deputy University Secretary and Campus Administrator, emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive image, cultivating leadership skills, and leveraging the university’s free and accessible Wi-Fi for research and academic growth. She encouraged responsible use of social media and digital platforms.

Irene Komuhendo, Acting Deputy Director of Marketing, inspired students to make the most of their time at KIU, pursue excellence, and consider continuing their academic journey with postgraduate studies or career development through the university.

The ceremony concluded with an official oath-taking, led by Rashid Kwizera, University Lawyer and Legal Officer, symbolizing the students’ formal induction into the KIU community and its values.
