KIU, Western Campus – Newly appointed Kampala International University Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Mamdani will be sworn in today in a virtual ceremony, as has become the norm thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony, which will be hosted on zoom, begins at 4:00 pm and ends at 5:00 pm and will be presided over by the Chairman Board of Trustees, KIU, Al-Hajj Hassan Basajjabalaba.

Prof. Mamdani is a leading and respected academic, author, and political commentator. He is the director of the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR), the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University and the Professor of Anthropology, Political Science and African Studies at Columbia University.

His wealth of experience in the academic world will certainly be a valuable asset to KIU, as the leading private university in East Africa seeks to rise higher up the academic ladder after being ranked third-best university in Uganda and number 58 in Africa in the latest webometrics university rankings in July 2020.

The entire KIU community once again welcomes Prof Mamdani and may he help the university to Explore more Heights!
