KIU Student Bags Gold Medal for Uganda at East Africa Karate Championships

KIU, Western Campus - KIU Crows are champions of the 2026 Western Uganda Men’s Regional XVs Rugby League, successfully defending the title they won in 2025 and cementing their dominance in the region.
The Crows sealed their unbeaten campaign with a 22-9 victory over Buddu Bears in the final match played April 25, 2026, in Masaka.
Joshua Aijuka led the scoring with four penalties, a drop goal and a conversion, finishing the season as the league’s top points scorer with 75.

Captain Clement Ogwal added the decisive try, while also emerging among the top try scorers with three.
The victory capped a flawless season for KIU, who finished top of the standings with 18 points, ahead of Buddu Bears and Fort Portal Tyrants, who both ended with eight points.
Kigezi Silverbacks placed fourth with four points, while Tooro Lions finished without a point.
In individual accolades, Jonathan Cyirabo topped the try-scoring chart with six tries, followed by Ssengoba Mark with four.
Speaking after the victory, Ogwal credited the team’s success to consistency and discipline.
“Hard work, determination and discipline got us here, along with the game plan we have been building throughout the season,” he said.
“It feels special defending the trophy. We are now focused on attaining core status and qualifying for the premiership.”
Aijuka’s outstanding performances also earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player award, underlining his importance to the team’s unbeaten run.

Head coach Asa Muhanguzi made history by guiding the Crows through an entire season without defeat, a first for the club.
The triumph marks KIU’s fourth Western Rugby title overall, having previously won in 2016 and 2017, and now back-to-back in 2025 and 2026.
KIU Rugby club will now shift attention to qualifying for the National league with playoffs expected to begin in May.
