KIU, Main Campus — Kampala International University (KIU) Football team is poised for the last group game of the 2025/2026 Pepsi University Football League and perhaps the team’s most important match in recent memory when they face Gaba Road neighbours Kampala University (KU) on Sunday, 15th March, 2026, at the FUFA Kadiba Stadium in Mengo.

The game will kick off at 3pm.

KIU sits third in group A, three points behind Kampala University at the top with 10 points, while Uganda Martyrs University is second with eight points. Mountains of the Moon University is fourth with two points, one above bottom-placed University of Kisubi.

KIU must win Sunday’s game to boost chances of advancing to the knockout stage for the first time in several years.

Coach Geofrey Akabwai’s boys will need to beat Kampala University by at least two goals to overtake the Gaba-based team on goal difference.

KIU will also hope defending champion Uganda Martyrs University fails to win its match against the University of Kisubi. That scenario would see KIU finish as group leaders, with KU in second place.

“We have no option but to win, and that’s the only way,” Akabwai said on Thursday, 12th March, 2026.

KIU enters Sunday’s game as the underdog but remains a team Vincent Tumusiime’s Kampala University side cannot afford to underestimate.

Recent results appear to have boosted the squad’s confidence. Akabwai’s side has won its last two league matches by margins of two or more goals, exactly the kind of performance they will need again to overcome Kampala University.

KIU will once again rely on in-form Isaac Musasizi and Gerald Ndabirawo, who have started 2026 in impressive fashion with determination and attacking threat.
