KIU, Western Campus – Staff members of KIU Teaching Hospital have sent their warm regards to midwives at the hospital and all over the country on this year’s International Midwives Day.

They took to their WhatsApp group to celebrate the midwives and to commend them for the great job they are doing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Executive Director of KIU Teaching Hospital Dr Akib Surati Olabisi thanked the midwives for “a job well done.”

“Appreciation goes out to all our midwives for work well done on this International Midwives’ Day,” Dr Akib wrote.

The Deputy Principal Nursing Officer at the hospital, Muhammad Musa congratulated the midwives at the hospital on their day.

“Happy International Midwives Day to all the midwives at KIU Teaching Hospital,” he said.

Sr Caroline Kyamazima of the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department, Boaz Musinguzi, Ritah Kiconco and Mariam Twaha were other KIU Teaching Hospital Staff members to send their warmest regards to the midwives.

This day will be a special one for midwives all over the country as they were given the recognition they have been requesting for a long while. The government recently gave them representation on the national COVID-19 taskforce and also promised to give them risk allowances. Plans are also underway to raise their lunch allowance, which is currently at only 2,000 shillings.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilize, unite – our time is NOW!”

Happy International Midwives Day from Kampala International University to all the midwives in the country! We sincerely appreciate the role you play in making the world better.
