What’s Happening Today?

International Drone Day. The day was created in 2015 by the team of “That Drone Show” to educate the world on the positive ways in which drones can be used.

We have seen drones being put to many positively impactful ways like irrigation, collecting geographical data, shooting music videos, sport, search and rescue missions and conservation.

Join Hands Day. Join Hands Day is celebrated on the first Saturday in May and it is meant to bridge the gap between the older and younger generations in a day of volunteering.

Whereas we need the adventurousness, ambition, innovativeness and boldness of the young generation, we also need the experience, steadfastness, reassurance and patience of the older generation to make the world better for present and future generations.

Baby Day. Baby Day was established to celebrate the smallest members of our species, and the wonders and joys they experience as they grow up. Children represent a new beginning and wonderful innocence in the world and we can learn as much from them as they can learn from us, not forgetting the fact that we were all once babies.

What Happened Today?

1. In 2011, Osama Bin Laden was killed by a US commando in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Bin Laden was the leader of al-Qaeda, a terrorist group in the Middle East that claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the World Trade centre and the Pentagon, which killed 2,977 people.

2. In 1997, Tony Blair became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He was the first PM from the Labour Party, ending 18 years of Conservative party reign after a landslide victory in the general elections.

3. In 1975, David Beckham, a former English professional footballer and current owner of Inter Miami FC, a football team in America’s Major League Soccer was born, and in 1519, Leonardo Da Vinci, an Italian painter, sculptor and architect died.
