Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIU-WC), formally received its April 2026 students during a comprehensive orientation programme held on April 28 and 29, 2026. The induction equipped new students with academic, administrative and personal guidance to begin university life with clarity, confidence and a firm grasp of institutional values.
University management, academic leaders and security agencies addressed the students directly, framing the orientation as a shared commitment to excellence, discipline and student success.

Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs Haulah Malkia, opened by prioritizing welfare and conduct. “Get right information from right sources. Our office is here for your welfare and health,” she said, cautioning against substance abuse and fraudsters posing as money lenders. She also urged vigilance in associations and reaffirmed university regulations on dress code and zero tolerance for sexual harassment: “Sex for marks has no place at KIU.”

Admissions officers, Allan Mugisha and Joel Ija, detailed registration procedures, distinguishing online, provisional and permanent admission, stressing the need for students to secure their admission letters and correct any errors. “Check your name, session and programme details. Change of course can be done within 45 days upon reporting,” Mugisha said. They emphasized original documents and partial tuition for registration numbers, warned against forgeries, and outlined clearance steps for health science, transfer and international students.

Representing the university management, Miriam Nikwakunzire, Campus Administrator, stressed discipline and accountability. “We call for high level individual commitment and discipline, personal responsibility, security, with a strict prohibition of academic dishonesty and examination malpractice. Follow procedure and respect deadlines, both academic and financial,” she stated. Nikwakunzire explained that her office coordinates campus activities to support learning and urged students to seek help when needed. Her closing message was direct: “Do the best you can to know better. When you know better, you will do better.”

In unison, Deputy Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Joyce Kirabo, assured students of the university’s focus on quality outcomes. “We assure the quality of our graduates as a result of our quality programmes. Exchange tuition with skills, not just degrees. Know the value of time, and maintain punctuality with 75% class attendance throughout the semester,” she said.

Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Joe Mutebi Ojera outlined key academic policies, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) registration, grading systems, retakes and semester repeats. He urged students to follow the university organogram by channelling concerns through departments and faculties. “You have the liberty to make choices, but you have no choice to choose consequences,” Dr. Ojera stated.

Security was a central theme, with Ishaka Officer in Charge, ASP Paul Bewayo emphasizing collaborative policing and personal vigilance. He advised students to move in groups especially at night, carry student identification, and choose fenced off-campus residences with security cameras and lighting. “If we are to fight crime, we must work as a team. Do not fear police. In modern policing, the police is the public and vice versa,” he stated, proposing a WhatsApp group for direct updates between students and security services.
The orientation included a campus tour of the KIU Teaching Hospital and Research Centre, Pharmacy, Science and Biomedical, Administration Block, among others. Students also received library orientation on accessing physical and digital resources. The programme concluded with faculty orientation, where students received academic guidelines specific to their programmes.
