Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIU-WC), prioritizes student leadership as a core part of grooming well-rounded graduates who can serve society beyond the classroom. This commitment was on display on Monday, April 27, 2026, when the university witnessed a peaceful transition of student leadership as the 11th Guild Union formally passed the mantle to its successors during a vibrant ceremony at the Basketball Court.

Outgoing Guild President, H.E. Clifton George Lamtoo attributed his cabinet’s achievements to teamwork. Speaking further, he reminded the incoming officials of the weight of their mandate. “As guild leaders, you stand as the first students, the bridge between the student body and management,” he said, urging them to lead with selflessness. Among his term’s milestones, he cited the successful Cultural Gala, Mr and Ms KIU pageantry, and the Sports Gala.

In his remarks, Charity Elijah Tusuubira Ssuuna, Electoral Commission Chairperson, reported that the commission had delivered credible, transparent and orderly elections. “Leadership is no easy task. It is a call to make a difference,” he observed.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs, Haulah Malkia commended the outgoing cabinet for its steadfastness. She urged the new leaders to anchor their administration in teamwork, transparency and accountability.

Adding his voice, Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Joe Mutebi Ojera challenged the new cabinet to exceed the standard already set. “As a leader, shed any lifestyle that does not reflect your office. Carry a vision, and with time, the sky will be the limit,” he said. He also commended the Electoral Commission for overseeing peaceful polls.

Dr. Bot Yakubu Sunday, Assistant Deputy Vice Chancellor (ADVC), Finance and Administration delivering remarks on behalf of the Guest of Honour, DVC, KIU-WC, Assoc. Prof. Eric Mabonga, restated the university’s commitment to holistic student development. “It is our culture to groom students into well-rounded citizens,” he said. Dr. Sunday further noted that their conduct in office would foreshadow how they serve the wider community. On behalf of management, he proposed two steps: setting up guild emergency lines to improve student safety and reviewing the union’s constitution.
Overseeing the handover and swearing-in, University Legal Adviser, Paul Tusuubira said elections remain the only civilized way to usher in new student leadership. He urged the incoming team to uphold peace and order.

In his inaugural address, newly sworn-in Guild President, H.E. Antony Tuhumwire, committed to an inclusive administration. “With discipline and unity, much can be achieved. There will be no segregation in this cabinet,” he pledged. Tuhumwire makes history as the first Guild President from the School of Law at KIU-WC.

The ceremony closed with awards to the outgoing cabinet in recognition of their service and contributions to student welfare, followed by the formal handover of office. Levis Akampa, Minister of Games and Sports, was recognized as the most outstanding member of the 11th Guild Union.
