KIU, Western Campus - Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIUWC), was transformed into a vibrant arena of colour, rhythm, and cultural pride during the 2025 Mega Cultural Gala, held on October 23rd and 24th, 2025. Organised by the 11th Guild Union under the dynamic leadership of H.E. Lamtoo Clifton George, Guild President, the event brought together students from across the region and beyond in a grand celebration of cultural heritage, inclusivity, and unity.

The two-day festival featured captivating performances, traditional dances, poetry recitals, and fashion exhibitions that reflected the diversity and creativity of KIU’s student community. The Baganda Nkobazambogo Students Association emerged as the overall winners, impressing the judges with their vibrant cultural showcase, which blended tradition, artistry, and historical storytelling. They were closely followed by the Bakonzo Students Association, whose energetic dance and authentic costumes captivated the audience, and the Bunyoro–Tooro Students Association, who secured third place with an elegant display of cultural elegance and heritage.

Other associations that delivered remarkable performances included the Acholi Students Association, whose dynamic traditional dances drew thunderous applause; the Basoga Students Association, who wowed the audience with rhythmic drumming and storytelling; and the Democratic Republic of Congo Students Association, whose music and dance brought a continental flair to the event. The Banyankore Students Association, Bamasaba Students Association, and Kisoro Students Association also showcased rich traditions through colourful attire, traditional chants, and expressive performances that reflected their deep cultural pride.

Although a few associations, including the Karamojong Students Association, Nigeria Community, South Sudanese Students Association, and Sebei Students Association, were unable to perform, their cultural identities were recognised and celebrated in spirit, reinforcing the event’s theme of unity in diversity.

In his keynote address, Guild President H.E. Lamtoo Clifton George commended the spirit of togetherness displayed by students and underscored the importance of cultural appreciation in promoting global harmony.
“As we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Galla people, we also honour the diverse traditions that define Uganda, Africa, and the world,” he stated. “At KIU, we believe that diversity is our strength. By celebrating our differences, we nurture empathy, creativity, and unity. Let us make KIU a beacon of cultural exchange and mutual respect.”

Representing the university administration, the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor (ADVC), Dr. Ibrahim Babangida, lauded the Guild leadership and students for organising such a meaningful event.

“This year’s celebration has been both colourful and inspiring. It exemplifies KIU’s mission to nurture globally minded, socially responsible, and culturally sensitive graduates,” he noted.
“What we have witnessed today is not mere entertainment but education through culture, an opportunity for learning beyond the classroom. When we embrace diversity, we embrace peace, progress, and innovation.” He concluded.
