By Jacob Junior Munghesi – Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication
I am Jacob Junior Munghesi, and completing my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication at KIU has been one of the most defining chapters of my life. I chose this course long before I joined campus because I have always believed in the power of media to shape societies, elevate voices, and spark change. Journalism is my calling, and KIU offered the perfect environment to nurture that passion.
During my years here, I am proud of many milestones, but what stands out most is the professional growth I achieved through active news reporting and engaging in major media projects both on radio and television. Leading the Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA) as President for two consecutive years was another highlight that strengthened my leadership, confidence, and ability to bring people together.
KIU has shaped me not just academically, but personally. The institution pushed me to think critically, communicate boldly, and step into spaces of growth. Through various trainings, such as the Media Challenge activities, I gained practical skills beyond competitions and representing the University. I won the award for “Best English Live Reporter, 2024,” broke the record by winning two major awards in the same year with my team, and was also admitted into the Media Fellowship 2025, whose graduation is also this November. All these experiences now define my career path.
My campus life was full of beautiful memories, debates, newsroom training rush hours, late-night editing sessions, class discussions that turned into laughter, and friendships that became family. KIU’s diverse community taught me empathy, collaboration, and respect. Studying alongside people from different cultures broadened my worldview and made me a better storyteller, with a deeper understanding of humanity as the only race for a better world.
Looking ahead, my focus is on growing my career in journalism and communication amplifying community voices, telling impactful stories, and using media to drive positive change. I plan to advance my skills in digital media and hope to pursue my Master’s in Communications at KIU, if the opportunity arises, while continuing to serve society.
To the continuing students: be fearless. Use every resource, every classroom moment, every challenge, and every opportunity. KIU will give you the platform, but you must bring the passion. Stay curious, stay disciplined, and never underestimate the power of consistency.
As I celebrate this milestone, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family especially my sister and parents, my lecturers, mentors, classmates, friends, and the KIU Newsroom team, “the winning team,” as we call it, who have walked this journey with me. In a special way, I want to appreciate Mr. Akugizibwe Isaac, the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kimuli Shawn, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ngoma Muhammed, for always welcoming me and my colleagues whenever we knocked. Each of you played a part in helping me reach this chapter, and I carry your support into the future with pride.
I am because we are! For God and my country
