When I joined Kampala International University in August 2022 to pursue a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I was following a passion that had been with me for years: the desire to improve women’s health and maternal care. I have always been motivated by the need to safeguard the wellbeing of mothers and babies, especially in communities where quality healthcare is scarce. KIU provided the perfect environment for academic growth, clinical exposure, and professional development, making it the right place to pursue my specialization.

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Western Campus in Ishaka, Bushenyi District, I will be graduating as the best student in my class, having earned the highest CGPA. This achievement is the result of balancing academic responsibilities, clinical duties, and personal challenges, and it has given me not only advanced medical knowledge but also confidence, resilience, and the ability to make a meaningful impact in patient care.

My experience at KIU has shaped me both personally and professionally. Academically, I acquired critical thinking skills and advanced clinical expertise. Personally, I became more disciplined, compassionate, and resilient. I also learned teamwork, leadership, and the importance of lifelong learning in medicine.

I was actively involved in mentorship and community service. I participated in clinical mentorship, community health awareness activities, and collaborative academic discussions with colleagues. Supporting junior students by sharing clinical experiences strengthened teamwork and built lasting professional relationships within the university community.

Among the memories I will always cherish are clinical rotations, academic discussions with colleagues and mentors, preparing for examinations together, and celebrating milestones with friends. The friendships, teamwork, and support system built during challenging moments made my time at KIU truly memorable.

With my eyes set firmly on the future, I plan to continue serving in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology by providing quality healthcare to women and contributing to maternal and reproductive health improvement. I also aim to pursue research, professional development, and mentorship to make a meaningful impact in healthcare services.

To those who will carry the torch forward, my message is: stay focused, work hard, and believe in your abilities. The journey may be challenging, but dedication, patience, and perseverance will lead to success. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth.

Standing at this defining moment of my academic journey, I sincerely thank Almighty Allah, my family, my cousin Mohamed Abdi Warsame, my dear husband— Dr. Ibrahim Babangida, Assistant Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics and Research, and Head of OBGYN Department, my friends, mentors, lecturers, colleagues, and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Their prayers, guidance, patience, and encouragement played a significant role in helping me achieve this important milestone.

This journey has been more than earning a degree, it has been about answering a calling, building resilience, and preparing to serve women and families with compassion and excellence.
