Wilson Amanya, the founder and Executive Director of Global Earth Care International Uganda attributes his career success to his involvement in leadership while still a student at KIU between 2016-2019.

Amanya who graduated with a Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management in 2019 served as Prime Minister in the 2018-2019 KIU Guild Union led by President Jasper Arinda.

"My career path has been shaped by a strong passion for sustainability, community development, and climate governance. During my time at KIU, I actively participated in student leadership as the MP for the College of Economics and the Guild Prime Minister," he says.

"These roles exposed me to diverse challenges and opportunities that ignited my interest in serving communities and advocating for environmental and social causes," he adds.

Amanya's greatest accomplishment since he graduated from Uganda's leading private University in 2019 is Co-founding and leading Global Earth Care International Uganda, a nonprofit organization focused on sustainability, climate diplomacy, and community development.

"My student leadership roles at KIU also provided me with invaluable experience in governance, teamwork, and problem-solving, which I actively apply in my organization," Amanya admits.

"My Bachelor of  Procurement and Supply Chain Management equipped me with analytical, strategic planning, and leadership skills essential for managing projects and building sustainable systems," he adds.

Apart from co-founding Global Earth Care International Uganda, Amanya has also Participated in youth leadership elections at the district level (2020), which, despite challenges, he says further strengthened his commitment to advocacy and governance.

He has also established a strong network with key mentors and has travelled to multiple African countries and one European country, from where he gained global insights and perspectives.

Even when he left KIU five years ago, Amanya still lives by the core values the University inculcated in him.

"Resilience, teamwork, and leadership were key principles I developed at KIU. My roles in the Guild Union taught me the importance of perseverance, collaboration, and integrity in achieving goals."

Amanya continues to explore the heights, using the knowledge he attained at KIU to empower communities as well as inspire those around him.

“Through my organization, I have utilized the knowledge gained at KIU to implement projects that promote sustainability and empower communities. My background in procurement and supply chain management enables me to design and execute efficient community-based programs,’’ he explains.

Looking back, Amanya finds no better memory than his time in the Guild Union.  “My favourite memories revolve around leading the Guild Union and working on projects that brought students together to address challenges. It was fulfilling to serve as a voice for my peers and foster positive change,’’ he says.

Amanya commends the KIU administration for keeping the university on a steady progress through innovation and offering diverse programs that prepare students for global challenges.

“KIU’s diverse and inclusive environment, coupled with its emphasis on leadership and innovation, creates a unique platform for students to excel academically and socially,” he acknowledges.

25th Anniversary Reflections

It is a proud moment to celebrate KIU’s legacy of nurturing leaders and innovators in the last 25 years. This milestone reflects the university's dedication to excellence and community impact.

In that period, KIU has empowered thousands of graduates who are now leaders in various fields, contributing to socio-economic development and global progress.

I hope the institution continues to lead in fostering innovation, research, and global collaboration, producing graduates equipped to tackle modern challenges.
