KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University’s 2026 Pepsi Uganda University Football League (UFL) campaign came to an end on Sunday following a 2–0 defeat to Kampala University at FUFA Kadiba Stadium in Mengo.
Despite the result, KIU showed determination throughout the match but struggled to convert possession into clear-cut chances. Uncharacteristic defensive lapses ultimately proved costly in a game defined by fine margins.
Kampala University secured their place in the quarterfinals taking advantage of KIU’s shortcomings which saw them score both goals from set pieces. Samuel Ayebare opened the scoring in the 37th minute, rising highest to head home a well-delivered free kick from Gideon Nsubuga.
Nsubuga later sealed the result deep into stoppage time with a curling free kick, ending KIU’s hopes of progressing as one of the best runners-up.
The defeat left KIU third in Group A with seven points, behind Kampala University (13 points) and Uganda Martyrs University, who finished second after a 2–1 win over the University of Kisubi.

While the result marks the end of KIU’s UFL journey this season, it also highlights a campaign filled with growth and promise. The team displayed resilience and flashes of quality across the group stage, laying a strong foundation for the future.
Encouragingly, a large core of the squad is expected to remain intact, providing continuity and valuable experience heading into the next season. With lessons learned from this campaign, the Giraffes will look to return stronger and more competitive.
