Oulanyah, Among Elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of 11th Parliament

KIU, Main Campus - Omoro County MP, Jacob Oulanyah is the next Speaker of Parliament, after he was declared winner of the elections held during the first sitting of the 11th Parliament at Kololo, Kampala on Monday.

Oulanyah got 310 votes, beating Kamuli Woman MP and former Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga who got 197 votes. Whereas Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju became a distant 3rd with 15 votes.

Kadaga has been at the helm of Parliament leadership for the last 20 years, 10 of which she was Deputy Speaker before she replaced Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

Meanwhile, Hon. Anita Among Bukedea Woman MP was elected Deputy Speaker with overwhelming majority after beating her two male contenders Muhammad Nsereko and Yusuf Nsibambi. 

The 47-year-old, is a professional accountant, and a lawyer who graduated with a bachelor's degree in laws from Kampala International University in 2018.
