KIU, Main Campus – The Ministry of Health has revealed that in close partnership with Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative- GAVI, it is set to secure the COVID - 19 vaccine as cases escalate to over 35,000.

According Dr Daina Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health says that Uganda will participate in a Global Covax Initiative for COVID - 19 Vaccine access.

Atwine added that based on evidence available and recommendations of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Uganda will access the COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca.

She says that Uganda will explore the other traditional vaccine options such the one from China, when they only receive approval from World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, the access of the vaccine will be done in an equitable manner starting with the most vulnerable and more at risk.
