KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University (KIU) Main Campus on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, hosted a distinguished delegation from Mogadishu University, represented by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Ismail Omar Mohamed, Vice President for Administration and Finance. The visit focused on exploring collaboration in postgraduate medical training, research, and institutional development.
Dr. Ahmed highlighted Mogadishu University’s imminent launch of its first postgraduate residency program after years of accreditation and review. He praised KIU’s success in postgraduate medical education, noting that KIU alumni have excelled as specialists and assistant doctors.

“We need to share experiences on how this began and explore collaboration in exchange programs, joint research, and conferences,” he said.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Ngoma welcomed the proposals, affirming KIU’s openness to partnerships in joint grants, external examining, and academic exchanges. He extended an invitation for Mogadishu University to participate in KIU’s Annual Research scheduled for October, and emphasized the importance of formalizing collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
In her remarks, Prof. Regina Ejemot‑Nwadiaro, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, Consultancy & Extension (RICE), underscored the spirit of regional solidarity, declaring that “charity begins at home.” She explained that collaboration among sister institutions in East Africa is the foundation for building stronger global partnerships.
“It strengthens our joint efforts moving to the global world,” she said, stressing that KIU’s niche in biomedical training and its newly expanded postgraduate programs provide fertile ground for impactful cooperation.

Christine Ainebyoona, Main Campus Administrator and Deputy University Secretary, expressed delight at the connection, noting that Mogadishu University’s delegation included KIU alumni.
She highlighted KIU’s expansion into e‑learning and international centers, noting that extending similar initiatives to Mogadishu would be much welcomed since it is a fertile ground for postgraduate programs and a strong pilot for future collaboration.
The presence of Ismail Omar Mohamed added weight to the discussions, signalling Mogadishu University’s commitment not only to academic collaboration but also to administrative and financial frameworks that can sustain long‑term partnerships.
The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening ties between the two institutions, with both sides expressing optimism about joint postgraduate training, research collaborations, and broader academic partnerships. Prof. Ejemot‑Nwadiaro’s reminder that “charity begins at home” captured the spirit of the day — a call to build strong East African collaborations as the foundation for global impact.
