Objectives of the Programme
The aim of this programme is to produce qualified researchers, innovators, educators and consultants in the field of Science/Technology for social and economic transformation not only in the East African region but Africa at large in order to meet among others, the Millennium and Sustainable Development Goals (i.e. Eradication of Poverty and Education For All). This is through the accomplishment of independent and original research work, the reporting thereof in a research thesis and a subsequent viva voce. Hence forth, the following are the programme objectives for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Science:
- to develop skills for scientific research through training in research methodology to carry out focussed and rigorous research in the discipline under close supervision leading to a PhD thesis.
- to develop managerial and transformational leadership skills in and beyond area of specialization to broaden their horizon above and beyond the focus of their research in the department.
- to enhance the knowledge and design skills in science/technology and engineering through highly specialized advanced training.
- to provide innovative and entrepreneurship skills for development of home-grown solutions to home based problems.
