KIU Rangers are preparing for another exciting postseason campaign after securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs, where they will face long-time rivals, the UCU Lady Canons starting on Saturday July 11th, 2026.
Despite undergoing a major squad transition this season, the Rangers earned their place among the league's top eight teams.
With the departure of several experienced professional players, KIU relied heavily on a youthful squad made up largely of student-athletes.
Although many questioned whether the new-look team could remain competitive, the Rangers demonstrated resilience throughout the regular season to book another playoff appearance.
The 2026 NBL playoffs get underway on Friday, July 10th, at YMCA Wandegeya, while the women's quarterfinal series between KIU Rangers and UCU Lady Canons begins on Saturday, July 11th, at 10:00 a.m.
The second game will be played at noon on Sunday, July 12th, 2026 with a deciding third game, if required, scheduled for Wednesday evening.

KIU heads into the series looking to overcome a difficult hurdle, having never eliminated the Lady Canons in a playoff contest. UCU once again enters the postseason as one of the championship favourites, setting up a challenging but exciting test for Coach Julius Lutwama's side.
Throughout the season, the Rangers have been inspired by the leadership of captain Ines Kanyamuneza and experienced center Sharon Kirabo, whose consistent performances have guided the youthful team through a demanding campaign.
The duo will once again be expected to play a key role as KIU seeks to upset one of the league's strongest sides.
A victory over UCU would represent a significant milestone for Coach Lutwama and the Rangers, as the Lady Canons have remained one of the few teams KIU has struggled to overcome in recent years.
The Rangers have recorded only two wins against UCU over the past four seasons, highlighting the magnitude of the task ahead.
Nevertheless, playoff basketball has a reputation for producing memorable surprises. Armed with determination, teamwork and belief, the KIU Rangers will be aiming to write a new chapter in the club's history as they battle for a place in the NBL semifinals.
The quarterfinal clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the 2026 playoffs as KIU looks to end UCU's dominance and continue its postseason journey.
