KIU, Western Campus – Ronnie Ssonko, a third-year student of Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering, and also the current Vice-President of the KIU Western Campus Guild government, Member of Parliament for School of Engineering and President of the KIU Mind Hub Club.

He says he wants to solve the challenges faced by the community through research and innovation and also to use contextualization to widen the scope of technology in the country.

“Through research and innovation, I will solve the challenges that are faced by my community. I will offer training to people who are unfortunate so that they can be able to come up with viable solutions in their communities,” Ssonko says.

He joined KIU in 2022 because he wanted to get all the skills and experience required of an engineer and also to interact with people from different parts of the planet.

“I joined KIU because I wanted to attain all the skills and experience that are required of an engineer and also to be part of the highest-ranked private institution in the country,” he explains.

“I also wanted to be able to engage and interact with all people from different regions of the planet because of the fact that KIU is an international University,” he adds.

Some of his memorable moments include his first week at university when he marvelled at the equipment that was available at the School of Engineering, when he first witnessed the cultural gala in 2023 and when students united to help a needy colleague who had challenges with clearing tuition in time to do exams.

Ssonko says he will be eternally grateful to his sponsor Barbra Nabacwa, who has made it possible for him to pursue his studies, colleagues he began university with and Dr. Milon Selvam, his lecturer who has guided him on how he should conduct himself at every step of his engineering journey at university.

He advises everyone looking for a quality university education to look no further than KIU because there is a reason why it has been ranked so highly internationally and they should go there and experience the quality it has to offer.
